Our beloved Island healer, Dr. Melissa Wickey, and her family need our love and support. Melissa is a ray of light and inspiration to all who meet her and are healed by her… As most of you can surmise, this has been an extremely challenging year for the Wickey family. Last year, the family almost lost their loving husband/father, Matt, to a serious infection, and just recently, in early summer, Melissa was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Two types of cancer cells were found. The initial oncologist gave Melissa a one-year life expectancy if left untreated, with six months of chemo out the gate followed by surgery as the course of treatment, and then maybe more chemo/radiation. So, a more aggressive approach than other types of breast cancer diagnoses. If anyone knows Melissa and her tremendous powers as a holistic healer, this treatment plan is not completely acceptable to her for now. Melissa is preparing to go into isolation and do a one-month water fast, closely supervised by an oncologist that specializes in holistic approaches and will help facilitate her water fast. Hopefully, this starves the cancer and makes chemo in the future either easier or not necessary. Melissa is in amazing spirits and an inspiration to all. Her most recent CAT and blood tests showed no spread, so this is early good news. After the fast, assessment will dictate the next steps of the journey. She has had to shut down her successful acupuncture practice (for six months at a minimum), which is a substantial loss for her family’s financial stability. Her husband, Matt, just returned from a spiritual healing voyage across the Pacific (to bring closure to his near-death experience last summer) and has jumped into work full-time and caring for the boys. Things are difficult, and bills are stacking up from out-of-pocket medical expenses for treatments, medical insurance not covering some upcoming tests/treatments, mortgage, Melissa’s business practice studio (which they are trying to sublet if you know anyone!), and general living costs/bills, etc. It is hard to ask for help. Melissa and Matt are both very humble people and warriors, but they know the power of prayer and community so much and need a push to get through all of this temporary suffering of their beautiful family. Thanks for your consideration. So many people locally have asked how to help or want to help and don’t know how. Matt suggested: Please reach out, don’t feel strange, we are very open to this healing process. It may be difficult, but we are strong as a family… A dear friend came by out of the blue one day and gave me a hug I needed badly. Another dear friend brought dinner one night when I was struggling with the boys alone and working. That is support. Friends bringing spring well water for Melissa to drink on her fast, so many people assisting with the kids the past months of summer, that type of stuff!! It’s so helpful and so loving and touches us. We appreciate all of you. And pray for my wife like you all prayed for me. We know that power.
